Real Questions and Real Answers about Mommy Makeover
Who would be considered a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
The best way to determine if you are a candidate is to come in for a complimentary consultation with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. During the consultation, you will be evaluated in all areas of concern so you and your surgeon can decide what is best for you. Generally speaking, a woman in good health overall that has completed having children, could be a good candidate!
What is the recovery time for this procedure?
Although recovery varies from patient to patient, it can take anywhere from one to six weeks in most cases to resume normal activities. Some patients do recover sooner and choose to return to work one week after surgery, while others need two weeks. However, we suggest four to six weeks until full physical recovery.
How much does a Mommy Makeover cost?
The cost of a Mommy Makeover varies. During your consultation, you will be given a quote based on the evaluated areas. Insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures like these; however, our highly trained professionals offer great financing programs.
Why do you combine the procedures instead of doing them individually?
We advise you to combine the procedures to minimize recovery time. If the procedures are done separately, it can take a lot longer to recover. Why not go through the process just once if given the option?
I recently had a baby, how long should I wait to have a Mommy Makeover?
We would suggest you definitely hold off on this procedure if you do plan to have more children. It is best to wait 3-4 months after you have stopped breastfeeding and your body has fully recovered from pregnancy and is back to normal (at least 6 months).
Hi I’m 3 weeks post op from a mini tummytuck and breast augmentation I was wondering when can I jog / weights?
Thank you for your question. At 3 weeks, I feel you are still a little too soon, but you can walk, and gradually other things can be implanted. Remember, you are still healing, and we do not want that to be compromised. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. This will depend on when your surgeon feels the implants have settled down in the pocket, and the procedure appears to be at risk. Inflammation needs to be substantially reduced or you will inflame the breast and the implant will remain too high. I hope this helps.
Why Was I Turned Down for a Tummy Tuck? I am 5′ 4″ and weigh 179 lbs. I was told I must lose “at least 20 lbs.” I am in good health and decent shape. I have never been skinny.
Thank you for your question. I recommend you see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and get another opinion. Every surgeon has their comfort zone and apparently this was not in that surgeons comfort zone. If two tell you the same thing, then I would listen carefully to the advice. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. Discuss this with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and after evaluating you, he can determine when you can engage in this level of activity, and what signs to observe for if you are doing too much. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. If you mean TUBA as trans-umbilical BA, he will be operating into the same neighborhood, but this is not a widely accepted practice by the Plastic Surgery Community as there are several risks involved with this approach. I would be certain your surgeon is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and you may want another opinion on this procedure from a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. We see quite a few complications from TUBA here in the Bay Area. They are being done by a non-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon though. I hope this helps.
What Type of Breast Augmentation is Best for my Body Type? I am looking to do a mommy make over. But I am trying to decide which procedure would be best. I also was interested in fat grafting for buttock enhancement but not sure if I have enough fat. Please help..Im looking to start by year end.
Thank you for your question. A breast augmentation is very individual, and is an art, everyone has a different opinion. You need to determine your goals, if you are going to be very athletic, especially racquet sports, jogging, horseback riding, and if you have any back issues, etc. Do you want to just fit clothes better, or have other goals. Discuss these with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and they can direct your to the size and type of implant to best fit you and your objectives. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. The risk is all related to anesthesia time and surgeon time and your health and individual risk factors. Not all surgeons do surgery in the same time. Some breast augmentations take 30-40 minutes, others take 2 hours. The size of implant, the type of lift, and many other variables are factors here. These are best answered by your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and then you can do a risk assessment. I hope this helps.
I had a tummy tuck and a breast augmintation a week ago today when can I start takin my diet pills called Miracle garciania cambogia?
Thank you for your question. Typically, we try to get patients off of diet pills, and implement a good healthy diet with good food choices, and an exercise plan. Pills are not for the long term use so a lifestyle change is the ultimate goal. I hope this helps.
Is It Safe to Start the Advocare 24 Day Challenge if Your Scheduled for Surgery in 34 Days?
Thank you for your question. This should be discussed with your surgeon and involve them in the decision making process. Each surgeon has their plan, and know what variables they can work with . I hope this helps.
Is A 2 Hour Plane Journey Possible a Month After a Mommy Makeover?
This should be fine, just clear it with your surgeon and all will be good. Thank you for your question and good luck with everything.
I am thinking about getting plastic surgery to give me my body back before I had 6 children. I am still a small framed woman 28years old and I weigh about 125 and am 5’6 in height. I definetly want the Mommy makeover but I’m also thinking about getting a nicer shaped butt. So,I was wondering if I could get both procedures at the same time or should I get one before the other with wait time in between.
I like to have one done at a time so you can have a side to sleep on without pain. You should not be laying on your butt lift if there is fat transferred so one side at a time.
I lost weight through diet/exercise(highest was 252 during pregnancy.)But now so ashamed at the way my body looks due to extra skin that I cant even celebrate my accomplishment! My breasts, stomach and butt sag & my naval is constantly infected. Im 5’4″/155 lbs. My goal is to be able to wear a bathing suit & be confident doing so! Im a single mom with set budget of 8k. I am thinking I would need TT,Lipo, & Breast aug/lift? Lookng for referrals.. Willing to travel if necessary.
You may need a circumferential lift, breast aug/lift. That is a lot to do with a budget of 8K. Talk with some local Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and see if they can help you meet your goals.
This may sound crazy, but I love big, fast roller coasters and I am concerned about not being able to ride after a BA with implants and a TT with MR and hernia repair. Will I still be able to ride, even with all the jerking and G-force that roller coasters have? Are there ANY restrictions after the healing time? Could I go horse riding, sky-diving or become a professional athlete? I am very active now and don’t want to lose that.
Just give yourself time to heal, and get a clearance from your doctor, then enjoy life. Thank you for your question and good luck with everything.
I just turned 48 in Feb. but had a heart attack due to clogged arteries. I take all the meds and exercise eat right and don’t smoke. I am only waiting for my one year to be up so I can stop the plavix for the 10 days or so that I will need to be off. My PS is planning to do this in the hospital just to be safe so I don’t think he has any worries. I know I don’t. Do you think it would be best to go under, or stay awake? I’m really not sure about that part but I would rather be out. I want this!
I’ve already had a consult for a tummy tuck with hernia repair. My doctor said it would take between 2-2 1/2 hours but now I am considering having a breast aug as well. (Not sure if I need a lift with it) Anyway, my question is, how long would this surgery typically take and how much more of a risk am I for DVT or PE by combining procedures with longer operative time. I am 26, 117lbs, 5 ft, and healthy. Thanks in advance.
The risk should be low, and the breast aug. takes only 45min. to an hour longer. Discuss this with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and they will direct your decision with you.
im a 25 year old mom of two toddlers. i am interested in having a ‘mommy makeover’ but i do want to have another child in about 5-6 years. i understand i may need to have revision surgery after pregnancy and i’m okay with that. i just dont know if i should or not? i really want to enjoy my body while i’m still young as i live an active lifestyle and want to enjoy while i can. i’ve had one c-section and one natural birth.
A mommy makeover now is fine. You may or may not need a revision in the future. The surgery, if done correctly, seems to have good persistence and holds up well.
i’m considering having a “mommy makeover” and have read about a mini-tummy tuck, traditional tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and now had a friend tell me about Smart Lipo. i have lost about 25lbs through diet and exercise after my two children (i’m 25 yrs old) and i don’t know what would be better for me (if i plan to have children in 5-6 years from now. i dont know if id be an ideal candidate for a mini TT or full TT or even smart lipo? what would be most recommended for me?
You should see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area, and they will evaluate your muscle, skin, and fat and then give a recommendation on what is best for you.
I want the swelling to go down. Pain is manageable with OTC stuff. When can I start taking anti swelling stuff to make the swelling go down? I’m 4 days post op. And which one is better?
Usually you need to wait at least a week to take advil, 2 weeks is better. Tylenlol is fine after, but wait longer for the Advil/Ibuprofen, Naproxen drugs.
I am scheduled for a mommy makeover (TT and BA) on April 15th, but I am catching a cold….my body hurts, throat is sore and I feel it in my chest. Currently I am just taking 2,000mg vitamin C per my surgeons Pre-op instructions. How can I get better fast and will my surgery have to be post-poned?
A cold is a cold, and if your airway is irritated, this could delay your healing so wait until you are healed. The 2000mg of Vit. C will likely not help very much if at all, unless you are deficient, then you will benefit. Otherwise, all you need is 250mg/day, and much of this is wasted. The USA has the most expensive urine in the world due to our excessive vitamin consumption. Water soluble vitamins go out with the urine. Get plenty of rest, fluids, and have surgery when you are ready.
Some doctors keep the patient in the hospital over night while others send the patient home after surgery. I am concerned about being home and having something go wrong, or having the stress of being around the kids without the ability to help out. What are the pros and cons of going home the day of a tummy tuck and breast lift?
All of our patients go home the same day and do well. This has a lot to do with the anesthesia and whether they medicate you to go home the same day or use longer acting medications.
My 20th wedding anniversary is June 1st and we are going on a trip. What will I look like at that point (surgery May 9th), will my scars and swelling still be scary. This will be our first trip together in 12 years without the kids.
You will be moving a little slower, but we have some patients drive here in a week, and are ready to go travel and their drains are still in so everyone is different and just stay healthy, be positive, follow the Dr. orders, and your healing should go well. Four weeks is enough time to feel well barring something unusual.
I am looking at having a mommy makeover done at begging of June. I would like to know how soon before can go water skiing, tubing, go on amusement rides?
This all will depend on your healing and recovery. Usually 4-6 weeks is the transition to more vigorous activities. The recovery is different for everyone.
My PS doesn’t require any blood work or any tests before surgery but after reading several doctors answers it seems it may be safer to have this done.I’m having BA, BL, and full TT. I’m 116lbs, 5’0 and healthy as far as I know. I also just had my third c-section 6 months ago. My PS is telling me he can preform all of this in four hours and I would like to know: if I have a medical work up on my own what tests you all normally require your patients to have done.
There is no harm in having the tests done if you would like to. Discus with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and they can assist you in obtaining the order.
I had a consult today.. and I have decided on silicone implants. My question is this… Will 425 cc in silicone look as big as 425 of saline??? It seems to me that saline look a little higher profile???Saline tends to look just a bit bigger, and requires a small incision. But, gel feels more natural, has no valve, and very durable. There are different profiles so take that into consideration.
I had a mommy makeover 2 weeks ago. I was supposed to get my stitches out (FTT/BA/BL) today, but due to taking too long and waiting 1.5 hours, I had to leave and reschedule the soonest 5 days from today. Should I be concerned? My PS doesn’t seem concerned, but I’ve read some of the docs mention railroad track scarring.
The usual time of removal is 2-3 weeks, depending on how you heal. They may be more difficult to remove if left in too long.
I am a 35 year old mother of 4. We are done having children and am 5’7″ and 180 pounds. I do not plan on having the surgery until I get to a more ideal weight. I cannot decide if a Mommy Makeover is the best solution for me. I am wanting my breasts to be higher on my chest and a flatter stomach. I would appreciate any input as to whether the Mommy Makeover is the best avenue for me to pursue when locating a surgeon.Find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and discuss your options. If you have no abdominal issues, then just focus on the breast. You can choose between gel and saline.
I am 16 i had my daughter last year, and am 5 year birth control i do not want anymore children, and would like my body to be normal again.
That is younger than we normally would treat. I recommend you see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and receive an evaluation of your options. A MM does not prevent future children should you change your mind.
I’ve read a lot about taking multi-vitamins (without vitamin E), Arnica Montana, and Bromelain pre and post-op. I normally take a multi-vitmain, vitamin C, calicium + vitamin D, magnesium, iron, and fish oil. I’m down to just my calcium and vitamin C to avoid vitamin E and other supplements that were on my list of “do not take 2 weeks prior to surgery.”Are Arnica Montana and Bromelain necessary or even safe? I’m worried they may trigger migraines (which I have a history of)or be unsafe.
Every practice has their own system of what they believe works best for their patients. Discuss this with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and they will develop a plan for you. Typically, all you need is a multi vitamin and some like the bromelain in addition.
Hi, I am 26 years old with two children, youngest is 2. I am slender at almost 5′ 8″ and 130lbs. I lost all my baby weight by diet and exercise but I continue to have the typical “mummy tummy” I have moderate stretch marks below my belly button and my muscle are not seperated and feel flat. I have a loose bulge starting below my belly button and love handles. Heard lipo and a skin tightening treatment are the new “mummy tummy” makeover. Anything to the hype?
Some can benefit from this, but the results seem to be too inconsistent. I recommend you see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and consider a mini TT or full TT, and be rid of the skin you do not want.
I am a very active person, and I love doing p90x and insanity workouts. When can I resume getting back to my normal workout activity, and will I have to build my strength up again?
Usually at 5-6 weeks, a light workout, followed by gradually increasing intensity is a good rule to follow.
I had breast augmentation/ anchor lift/ tummy tuck with muscle repair and lipo of flanks and inner thighs. I am 9 days PO I carefully and lightly did dishes which required bending over and reaching. I also swept the floor lightly. Is this okay to do? Am I putting any stain on my core muscles? I feel fine and take breaks when I need it. I am an active athletic person 5’2 at 115-120 pounds, and I feel that has a lot to do with me recovering so fast. What kind of household chores are okay to do?
This is not the time to find out how much you can do. The priority is for you to heal, and with minimal scar tissue. Being too active may cause more scar tissue. After 4-5 weeks, depending on how you are doing, then you may think of small household chores.
Including a TT and BBL (Fat Transfer) ? I am pretty sure I will be doing all my procedures at once along with pain pumps, I am still researching risks but I doubt I will ever have this opportunity again. Any advice on what to make this easier would be so helpful.
I do not think you will need a bed or chair. You should be up every 1-2 hours to walk. Thank you for your question and good luck with everything.
Can You Do a Tummy Tuck and Arm Augmentation Instead of Breasts for a Mommy Make over. I have what i call an apron of belly fat, but i also have flabby arms. My breasts could use help but i’m not as concerned about that. You can have what you desire. A Mommy Makeover is a Mom finally getting what she wants. See a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, then look at the options, then a decision on what is best for you and then implementing the plan.
How far in advance would I need to make the appt to have the surgery done? I have endometriosis and andeomyosis also, would this be a concern? What is the best method to try to find a Doctor? Is there usually a deposit, payment plan, or is the procedure needed to be paid upfront?
First you will need medical clearance, then you will need to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area you are comfortable with. Interview several of them, 2-3 should be sufficient, then make a decision.
How Many Wks in Advance Should I Stop Drinking, I Am Having a Mommy Makeover Aug 3rd?
Depends on how much you drink now. If you drink heavy, then you should disclose this to your physician and discuss a plan. Usually a 7-10 day abstinence is good to have. Also stop all herbs.
Which Surgery Should Be Done First – Breast Augmentation or Tummy Tuck? I am a mother of two with a sagging stomach when I bend at the waist. When standing, it’s not saggy – just an excess layer of loose fat beneath the skin that I cannot work off with exercise. If considering a tummy tuck & breast augmentation, which of these surgeries should be done first and which second to get the best overall results? I do have very young children, and therefore think it would be best to break up the surgeries so I can have a more manageable recovery period and manage them.
Do the breast aug. first that way if there is a need to adjust something later, you can do that when you are having the TT 9 months later or so. Either sequence is fine though.
How long after surgery will I be able to Jacuzzi? Im going for full tummy tuck and breast lift?
This will depend on how fast you heal, and how long the drains are to remain in place. Thank you for your question and good luck with everything.
I’m having a tummy tuck, breast lift and implants in 6 days. I went to the doctor today and she said my allergies are acting up (all nasal symptoms, no fever, or cough) and that my ears have fluid on them but are not red or infected. Can I still have surgery and would it be smart to take amoxil to prevent ear infection? Is that safe to take before surgery?
Your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon can direct you to an antibiotic if needed prior to surgery. Usually you will receive antibiotics during or before surgery.
I plan on getting a mommy makeover (TT, Breast Augmentation lipo of flanks and thighs and a Butt lift (fat transferred to buttocks)out of the country. Is it ok to get all these procedure at the same time? What is the recovery time and how soon would I be able to travel? Im 30 yrs. old 5’3 and weigh 135lbs.
A procedure out of the country is not recommended. One most be extremely cautious in electing to have surgery out of the states. There are a lot of good doctors in the world but U.S. doctors are hesitant at times to take on corrective surgeries involving this factor.
I have both an umbilical hernia and diastasis recti, which give me pain and other issues. Does anyone know if my insurance will pay for all or part of the surgery? Thanks.
It is rare for insurance to pay for the MM part, but the muscle portion may qualify if you find a surgeon in network and a surgeon to do the procedure for you cosmetically.
I am a 31 year old stay at home mom who has recently busted butt to lose 70 lbs and after having 3 c-sections and breastfeeding all 3 of those babies my body is in desperate need of repair but being a stay at home mom I can’t afford it. Are there doctors who will take on a pro bono case possible for me due to my weight loss and such? I just want to be happy but even my size 8 jeans can’t make me smile when I have to tuck my belly skin into them. thank youIf you live near a university, perhaps they need clients to donate abdomens to give students (Plastic Surgery Students) an opportunity to practice tummy tucks and other procedures. Otherwise, due to the high cost of overhead, pro-bono surgery is very rare, and with plastic surgery being on the downturn, incomes down, many plastic surgeons closing up surgery centers, economically, the timing is very bad. I wish you the best on this challenging endeavor.
I am considering getting a Mommy Makeover, I’ve researched the topic intensively but before going into a consultation I would like to get some feedback and see what your opinions are. Based on the pix that I’ve uploaded would I benefit more from tummy tuck or lipo? Also I’m an A cup and would like to be a small D, is this possible? I would also like to add the fact that I’ve had 2 c-sections (not sure if this is relevant). Thank you in advance for taking the time out to answer my questions.
Going from an “A” cup top a small “D” is not difficult provided your body will accommodate the change in size. Typically if you want the best skin quality, the Tummy Tuck is the gold standard. Lipo is great on the hip area with the TT in combination. I like to use both TT and lipo at the same time if needed.
IM 40 years old and I dont feel sexy anymore and very unhappy with my body i cant not love again cuz im so unhappy with my body .I wish come true with my sexy body back again. My 3 kids are grow up and no more babies cuz im diabetes also im deaf too.My belly fat ,my breast sagging my leg also hipo too that sucks . i did try excerise and right food but i felt same weigh 195lb how come never go down im very sad I want sexy back .I cant afford to pay fix my body feel sexy again :(.There are many different payment options available at this time. You should consult with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and evaluate the payment, and surgical options.
I am an active Mom of 5 (spin, running, interval training, step, etc.) I started back at the gym at week 5 doing low impact step class, stair master, interval training) but am concerned about when I can start doing bench presses, planks and mountain climbers. Is there a recommended amount of time to wait before starting any core exercises? How long should I wait to start bench presses and all other exercises laying on my back or with my back supported on the bench?
Remain in low-impact exercise until at least 6-8 weeks. Allow healing to complete, and not risk injury before healing has had a time to finish. Start with low weight, then gradually move up in weight. You will know when is the right time.
I started consultations with surgeons for mommy makeover. I am 5’6″ 150 lbs, 38 yo. Ps states need a horizontal & vertical incision because most of my belly bulge is at the bottom but I will need MR for diastasis from 2 pregnancies. If it is a FTT, why two incisions. And for implants ps wants areola incision but I prefer mammary fold. Also, with thin chest would saline look good or should I go with silicone. Under or over muscle?
We like the submuscular approach as there seems to be fewer capsule contractures. If you are not a competitive weightlifter or bodybuilder the mild distortion of the submuscular approach should not be an issue, and the inframmary incision is a good decision. Periareolar is also good, but with a gel implant, size can be a factor with regard to fitting the implant in the periareoloar location. You may want to get a second and third opinion, and these also with Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and then make a decision. Many BCPS have different training, and the end result may be very similar, but you need to feel comfortable with what you her from your surgeon.
What Mommy Makeover Options Are Available for a Sagging Bust? If a mother never breast-fed, would the recommendations be a bit different for improving the look of sagging breasts? Do breast lifts result in a smaller cup size?
A breast lift can result in a smaller cup size, but this would depend on the shape, goals, and whether an implant is to be used. Sagging breasts need a similar procedure, with or without breastfeeding.
